I already mentioned in my previous postings that I was working on a very special scroll and here it is: The viking knighting scroll for Kaðall Viðarsson. …and yes, before you ask, it is indeed a painted woodcut. Though the term “scroll” might actually not really apply here, it served all purposes of a scroll at a recent SCA event. Therefore I am quite inclined to keep on using the term “scroll”. But actually the name of this finished project doesn’t really matter. The recipient, Kail, who got surprised with this scroll at his vigil, told me that he really loves his viking knighting scroll. And this makes me very happy as I am quite proud of the…

Scriptorium – new scroll blanks for the Kingdom of Meridies :)
Well, this was definitely a first for me. Never before did I go home after an SCA event with more scroll blanks than I had before… *lol* But first things first. Mistress Mara Palmer, who is doing an awesome job coordinating the scrolls supplied by the local scribes with the scroll demand of the current Royal Majesties, had several blanks with lovely artwork in her case. But they all had one thing in common – they were in need of some calligraphy…

SCA Heavy Fighting – working at my arming coat / gambeson :)
And before someone else drops the question again about the progress of my armor for SCA heavy fighting and why I am still not in armor… Guys, it’s not finished yet! …I am still working at my arming coat! Really! I swear! *lol* Well, I hate to admit it but this is not my first arming coat project. Though I’ve never finished my very first attempt of an arming coat, I am quite positive that this new project will be quite different. And I am working hard to make it a success so I can finally mark the arming coat project off my list. Yeah, it’s true, I started an arming coat project already many years ago. But despite all…

Scriptorium – another Grant of Arms… :)
Wooohoooo! Another one of my SCA scrolls – a “Grant of Arms” – was recently given out in court! …and I would love to send out a hearty congratulation to its recipient: Engelbrecht Wandelber! It was a true honor for me to create your scroll! 😀 Well, as you might already know, I normally create a lot of SCA scroll blanks in order to practice my Batarde hand as well as for my own, personal pleasure. But from time to time I also get a scroll commission for a personalized scroll. I really love this scroll commissions as creating a very special scroll for a very special person is always a great fun for me.

SCA Heavy Fighting – a painted shield for my husband :)
Before I post more about how to deal with the stress points of 12th century necklines, I would like to show you a “small” side-project for my husband at which I was working during the last days: A painted shield for my husband! The very first shield I ever painted! 😀 Well, my sweetheart might not excel in what we call the “Arts and Sciences” in the SCA but he has one great passion – Armored Combat aka “Heavy Fighting”. And that is perfectly fine for us as I am in charge of the “Arts and Science” and he for the armor and the fighting… *giggle*

Scriptorium – a sable sword for my husband and other new scrolls for the Kingdom of Meridies :)
Finally, after sooooo many days, my new computer arrived today and I am able again to work at new postings for my blog. And to celebrate this new beginning as well as my new laptop, I would like to start my very first posting and show you something I am really very proud of – the “Sable Sword” scroll I made for my husband: It took several days to work out the outlines, add all the paint and small details. I really think that I never worked as hard and long on a scroll as on this “Sable Sword” scroll for my husband. But when I think back to the day…

Scriptorium – and again new scrolls for the Kingdom of Meridies :)
And again new scrolls for the kingdom! 😀 Now, after finally finding a certain name and award in the court records of the Kingdom of Meridies, I can finally post the pictures of my last scroll commissions because I can say for sure that the last award was announced and given out in court… 🙂 Well, yes, as a scribe I know about the great importance of being able to keep a secret as no scribe wants to spoil the surprise as well as the experience of the recipient who gets the award…

Back from Gulf Wars XXV…
Home, sweet home! As much as I enjoyed Gulf Wars XXV, I have to say that it is really nice to be home again. 😀 Due to a very strong storm – it seems like even a microburst might had been involved which touched down very close to the site – we decided to leave the site two days early on friday. Fortunately no one on site was really injured though some people had to face the loss of their tent or equipment. My love and heart goes out to them. I am very glad to say that my husband and I were very lucky – our tent did very well…

…a short update – preparing for Gulf Wars and a lot of sewing… :)
Well, like always I am very busy working at projects but I thought it would be good to post a short update here instead of just leaving a brief comment on my facebook page. I am sewing like crazy at the moment, as one of my favorite SCA events – Gulf Wars – is coming up soon, to make sure that I have enough to wear for the whole event. And I am very glad to say that I am one step closer to this goal as I already managed to finish one simple new white underdress with trapunto cuffs and neckline. Not only that, I took several pictures of how I…

Scriptorium – new scrolls for the Kingdom of Meridies :)
If you already wondered why I was so silent recently, well, during the last weeks I was very busy hand-sewing and embroidering the christmas present for my sweetheart. And finally, after a lot of work, I made the last stitches for this very special project today. *happydance* But before I go through the pictures of my most recent project and post about it, I would like to show you the new scrolls I recently finished for my new SCA kingdom – the Kingdom of Meridies. 🙂
