I know, it’s about time for another update concerning the 14th century hood project with rose embroidery for my friend Elisenda. Well, what a great coincidence as I just managed to finish the third rose for her hood! …and not only that, I already started working on the fourth rose! đ Despite the small set-back due to the work on my arming coat and a knighting scroll for a friend, I never ceased to dedicate every spare minute to the embroidery for my friends 14th century hood project.

First sneak peek at a new embroidery project – a 14th century hood for a friend or roses, roses, roses,… :)
And todays posting is all about roses! …or to be more specific: embroidered roses! Well, you know me, I love me some good rose embroidery from time to time… đ After all my sewing related postings concerning my husbands new tunic, the time has finally come to show you some of my hand embroidery again! And as it happens, I just quite recently started a new embroidery project. Not only that, I already worked several hours on this project and therefore already have a nice sneak peek for you of: …a 14th century hood with roses (and maybe one or two pelicans) for my dear friend Elisenda de Luna! đ

My third tablet woven band â my very first garters!
After all the recent sneak peek pictures of my tabletweaving and how I turned my tabletwoven band into my very first garters, I finally managed to take some pictures of me wearing my very first selfmade silk garters! Well, my garters might appear quite simple, if you neglect the rather petite pattern of the silk band, but they really don’t need to be very fancy to do their job – to hold up my hand-sewn stockings! And I really love them! Especially as they now allow me to also wear my blue hand-sewn and embroidered stockings.  đ

More about Klosterstich… my Klosterstich wall hanging project documentation :)
Today I have good news for the fans of my Klosterstich wall hanging – I finally found the time to prepare my Klosterstich wall hanging project documentation and to upload it to the blog! đ Well, it is said that when one door closes, another one opens. And though I am still not able to prepare photos on my beloved Acer Iconia tablet due to a broken charger and the waiting time until my new one arrives, I still have plenty to post about for which I don’t need my tablet. I simply needed to reconsider what I can post about without using my tablet.

And today I have some pictures of my new 14th century cyclas / sideless surcote with the completed “Meridian Cross” appliquĂŠ work for you. đ I still didn’t find the time to put on my new 14th century cyclas / sideless surcote and to take pictures of me wearing it but I can assure you that I didn’t forget about it and that it is still on my to-do-list.

My new “Meridian Cross Cyclas” – a Manesse inspired 14th century cyclas / sideless surcote .1 – the appliquĂŠ embroidery
Yeah, it’s true and no typo – I made a 14th century cylas / sideless surcote for me! Or how I call the newest addition to my wardrobe: my 14th century “Meridian Cross Cyclas”! đ How come? Well, while I was living in the kingdom of Drachenwald – the SCA group covering Europe, the middle East and South Africa – I wasn’t able to make it to many SCA events. Not that I didn’t want to but quite many of the events were out of my budget due to the required travel to the location in a rather far away country like Sweden, Finland, UK,… Therefore my normal event count per year was about 1 to maximal…

White 14th century hood for a friends Pelican elevation â finished! :D
And after all my recent postings about the progress of my friends 14th century hood with pelican & knighthood embroidery, I can finally present to you the finished 14th century hood! The picture at the left was taken shortly after my friend – Sir Thomas Blackmoore (sorry but I don’t remember all the other proper SCA titles he has) –  was elevated to the Order of the Pelican.

In my last posting – “White 14th century XL hood for a friends Pelican elevation â embroidery .4 â how I created the embroidered Pelican patches .1” – I showed you how I created the two different kinds of golden beaks for the embroidered pelicans. After this step and and after finishing the rest of the embroidery for the pelicans, I decided to add even more embroidery. Instead of removing the base fabric in-between the knighthood belt and the pelican embroidery, which didn’t have any appliquĂŠ or other kind of embroidery, I made the decision to fill this empty space with lovely purple silk/wool thread.

In my last posting about the “white 14th century XL hood for a friends Pelican elevation â how I created the embroidered Pelican patches” I wrote about the different steps of how I prepared the basic pelican appliquĂŠ. Furthermore I also showed you several progress pictures of my embroidery work concerning this first steps. And today we take a close look at the very next step – of how I embroidered the two different kinds of golden beaks for the pelicans.

With this posting, after all the previous postings about the 14th century XL hood project for my friends Pelican elevation, I am finally reaching the last and major part of the embroidery for this hood project: …the pelican patches! In my last posting I already showed you the finished knight belt patches for the 14th century hood for my friends Pelican elevation. And as nice as the knight belt patches already looked like at this stage of the project, they all still looked quite empty, didn’t they – but no for long, that’s for sure… đ
