Cuffs, Cuffs, Cuffs and tablet woven band… 😀 Let’s talk about the cuffs for my husbands christmas present today – a 12th century tunic made from lovely grey light weight wool. Though I didn’t embroider the cuffs for my sweethearts 12th century tunic, they are still quite special for me as I decorated them with some tablet woven band I made myself – or well, I made about half of it to be precise… *lol* And it is actually the second tablet woven band I ever made. You might even remember the band – I posted about it in May of 2014: “My new tablet weaving loom & my 2nd try of…

My husbands christmas gift – a grey light-wool 12th century tunic – sleeves .1
And today I finally have some news for you about my most recent project – a grey light-wool 12th century tunic which I just finished some days ago. This new 12th century tunic is a christmas gift for my husband. As he already had to try on the tunic for the neck-fitting and also has seen the completed tunic, there is not much surprise left which could be spoiled anymore.

12th century belt for my 12th century wedding dress :)
I recently managed to finish nearly all of the hand-sewing for my 12th century wedding dress. And after looking at some pictures showing period 12th century clothing, the thought in me arose that it would be really lovely to also have a nice 12th century belt for my 12th century dress ensemble. I have never made a fabric belt for my 12th century wardrobe before but well, I think there is a first time for everything – it would be boring otherwise, wouldn’t it… 😉

My 12th century white silk underdress .3 – revisited – more about my decorated silk buttons
And after the last two postings about my 12th century white silk underdress, there is actually just one last major work step of this project left which I haven’t shown you yet. Yes, you are right, it is time to take a closer look at how I created the decorated silk buttons for the Trapunto style keyhole neckline of my 12th century white silk underdress. 🙂

Today I am going to show you more progress pictures of my “12th century white silk underdress” with a focus on some of my details for this project like the keyhole neckline, the Trapunto work at the keyhole neckline and my Trapunto sleeve cuffs.

My 12th century white silk underdress .1 – revisited :)
Today I am going to revisit an “old” project of mine – my beloved 12th century white silk underdress. And yes, before you ask, it is the underdress with the Trapunto neckline, the hand made, decorated silk buttons,… 😀 How come? Well, while I was working at the 14th century hood project for my friends Pelican elevation, I was asked if I could revisit my 12th century white silk underdress. And as I always love to talk about embroidery in general and in particular about my projects, I immediately and happily agreed to revisit this project. But first there was another task I had to take care of – I had to finish posting about…

12th century dress for the “12th century wedding clothing project” – sneak peek .7 – working at the keyhole neckline
After finishing the lid for my reliquary box, I decided to complete at least one more work step of my 12th century wedding dress keyhole neckline. And I was successful – the sewing part of my keyhole neckline is finished by now and won’t bother me anymore. I just need to add some further embellishments as well as a special finishing step to reinforce the bottom point of the neckline slit… *sigh* …so many projects and just so little time – I guess that sounds familiar to many of you, doesn’t it… 🙂

Racaire’s wedding cloak project – two embroidered patches from the SCA Shire of Phoenix Glade in Meridies :D
Life tried its best to keep me very busy recently but it’s definitely time again to present another awesome patch for my wedding cloak project to you. But wait… it’s not only one patch – I got two beautiful patches from ‘Inan… 😉 During the last year I received many lovely embroidered patches for my 12th century wedding cloak project by mail and in person. Though our 12th century wedding was delayed by at least one year due to the major heart attack of my husband, I haven’t given up on my 12th century wedding clothing project yet – I just took a short break to deal with the whole situation.

And again new news and progress pictures concerning my 12th century wedding clothing project! During the last two days I picked up my 12th century wedding dress again and continued the hand sewing of my keyhole neckline. 😀 The hand sewing part of the keyhole neckline seems to be the most difficult step of this dress project – at least for me. While working at a keyhole neckline I always tend to worry that I might mess up the keyhole neckline somehow – despite all the previous keyhole necklines I successfully completed during the last years. But I guess it is what it is – everyone of us has to fight this battles from time to time…

Surface couching embroidery – how I made the 12th century Agincourt Heart for Bella’s elevation garment
I will be very busy and away from my computer for the next days, therefore I thought that you might enjoy some of the progress pictures which I took while I was working at the 12th century Agincourt heart for Bella’s elevation garment. As some of you might have already noticed, I am very keen on medieval and especially 12th century surface couching embroidery. And today’s progress pictures will give you a nice glimpse at the “2:1 surface couching” embroidery technique which I used for Bella’s 12th century Agincourt heart.
