Recently I run into some very nice examples of 12th century art on display in online museum collection. And not only 12th century art, I also found other nice pieces of medieval art from other centuries… đ Normally I just look through the photos and information and save what I find interesting to my hard disk for later inspiration and research. But I got to know that some of my gentle readers are not only interested into medieval embroidery but also into history and medieval art. Therefore I started collecting new interesting links as soon as I run into them to be able to share them with you.

12th century embroidery – Saint Michael and the Dragon
At the moment I am working at the next posting for the current Craft with Racaire project – the “fast & easy pouch tutorial“. I will post it soon but it’s not finished yet… đ Therefore I decided to tell you more about my newest project and to show you some sneak peeks of it – of my new: 12th century embroidery project “Saint Michael and the Dragon” During my Mission “Medieval Berlin” I saw a beautiful embroidered wallhanging from the 12th century on display in one of the museums. This period wallhanging inspired me to try a “new” medieval embroidery technique. But first things first – here are the first photos of my new medieval embroidery project – enjoy! đ Above you…

Mission âMedieval Berlinâ – the forgotten 14th century Queen from France
As I promised, I already took a first look through my photos from Berlin. At the very first day I visited the “Tiergarten Berlin” (the zoo) and the nearby aquarium. Knowing that you would prefer to see some of my medieval photos first, I decided to skip this day for now and to start with day 2 and my very first museum visit. What shall I say – it was truly amazing! I already found some lovely medieval art at the very first museum I visited. I spend some hours looking through the medieval collection and took about 2.300 photos. Well, I admit that this count surprised me but I…

Mission “Medieval Berlin” accomplished :D
I am back again! …and I am very happy to say that I accomplished my “Mission Medieval Berlin”! *happydance* đ I had a rather long “wish-list” of museums which I wanted to visit. Therefore my time schedule for Berlin was very tight. 4 very long days filled with a lot of walking and yes, my feet still hurt! But there is just one word to describe my trip: Awesome! I was very busy in Berlin. I visited 7 museums and the zoo & aquarium. I also saw “Checkpoint Charlie”, the “Brandenburger Tor”,… just to name a few places. I even found time to meet two friends who live in Berlin. We…

Mission “Medieval Berlin”
I am so excited! I am going on a trip to Berlin! My motto for this trip will be: Mission “Medieval Berlin”! *gosch* 4 days filled with sightseeing, the zoo, “Checkpoint Charlie”,… – well, you know, all the “modern stuff” one can’t avoid when visiting Berlin. …and definitely as many museums and “ancient and medieval stuff” as possible! đ Yes, I will search Berlin for anything medieval I can find. My friends who live in Berlin already warned me that they don’t know any museums or medieval collections they could recommend. This information inspires me even more to search for even the smallest traces of extant medieval pieces in Berlin. Just 4 hours…

14th century Floral Head Bands
As some of you might have noticed over the last years, I really love visiting museums. And even more than visiting museums I love to take pictures of the beautiful medieval things on display in museums. Regardless if it is about medieval fabrics, medieval wood-work, medieval jewelry,… or medieval embroidery. You can take me to a museum and leave me alone in the medieval collection. I will happily entertain myself by taking several photos of nearly every medieval thing on display. It is especially dangerous to leave me alone with a good 12th century, 13th century or 14th century collection. Some of my friends already found out that I &…

Impressions from Vienna â Schwarzenbergplatz & Belvedere
More impressions from Vienna, the city that has been my “home town” for such a long time and still will be for some weeks… I guess I love Vienna as much as I hate it, but that might be also true for many others who spent nearly their whole life in one and the same city. A city that sometimes seems to contain more tourists than citizens – especially when you make the mistake to visit the inner city during day time… đ *lol*

Moyen Age N° 95 – article by Tina Anderlini & one of my museum photos
Some time ago my friend Tina Anderlini told me about an article she was writing and asked me if she could use one of my museum photos from the Schatzkammer in Vienna. …and now you may guess what was in my mail this week. Exactly – an issue of the magazine Moyen Age with her article and with one of my museum photos. đ Thank you very much Tina! I really like your article! đ I was very happy to be able to support her article with a good close up picture of the 12th century Cingulum on display at the Schatzkammer in Vienna. This are the moments when I…

Museum visit: Vienna 1450 – The Master of Lichtenstein Castle
I finally made it to the exhibition “Der Meister von Schloss Lichtenstein und seine Zeit” In English: The Master of Lichtenstein Castle and his time. The “Belvedere”  started this exhibition at the 08th of November last year and this weekend, at the 23rd of February, this exhibition will close its doors again. I am so glad that I managed to get there and to see the exhibition shortly before it ends again.
