I am so excited! I am going on a trip to Berlin! My motto for this trip will be: Mission “Medieval Berlin”! *gosch* 4 days filled with sightseeing, the zoo, “Checkpoint Charlie”,… – well, you know, all the “modern stuff” one can’t avoid when visiting Berlin. …and definitely as many museums and “ancient and medieval stuff” as possible! 😉 Yes, I will search Berlin for anything medieval I can find. My friends who live in Berlin already warned me that they don’t know any museums or medieval collections they could recommend. This information inspires me even more to search for even the smallest traces of extant medieval pieces in Berlin. Just 4 hours…

Posting about medieval embroidery for already 9 years ! Happy 9th birthday to me! :D
Happy birthday to me & my blog “Racaire’s Embroidery & Needlework”! 9 years filled with medieval embroidery! 😀 *gosch* …can you imagine it? I am already posting for 9 years about my embroidery and sewing projects. I think it is amazing – 9 long years filled with many medieval embroidery projects and medieval embroidery techniques like Klosterstich (cloister stitch), Refilsaum (Bayeux Stitch), German Brick Stitch, Surface Couching, Russian Pearl embroidery,… just to name a few. Btw. you can see a small part of my surface couching embroidery for my 12th century bliaut slit neckline on the right side. On the picture underneath you can see the final result of the first “Craft with…

Moyen Age N° 95 – article by Tina Anderlini & one of my museum photos
Some time ago my friend Tina Anderlini told me about an article she was writing and asked me if she could use one of my museum photos from the Schatzkammer in Vienna. …and now you may guess what was in my mail this week. Exactly – an issue of the magazine Moyen Age with her article and with one of my museum photos. 🙂 Thank you very much Tina! I really like your article! 😀 I was very happy to be able to support her article with a good close up picture of the 12th century Cingulum on display at the Schatzkammer in Vienna. This are the moments when I…

Impressions from Vienna – Schönbrunn Palace Garden & the oldest zoo of the World
Yesterday I went for a walk in the beautiful palace garden of the Schönbrunn palace. During my walk I took some photos for you. I really love to show friends or SCA members round in Vienna. When we are done with visiting some of the museums and the other interesting locations in the inner city, there is normally no time left for places like the Schönbrunn palace. There are just too many interesting places in Vienna to be able to see them all during a short city-trip. Therefore I thought it might be nice to take some pictures and to share them with you. This way you can visit this…

Embroidered patches for Racaires 12th century wedding dress project
“Patches for Racaires 12th century wedding dress project” for my 12th century SCA wedding at Gulf Wars 2015 When we were planning my wedding dress, my sister Bella had a lovely idea for a great fun project: “Patches for Racaires 12th century wedding dress project” This project gives you the possibility to contribute an embroidered patch to my wedding cloak, an important part of my wedding dress ensemble. This way you can become a part of my “wedding dress project” and my wedding, if you like. Because the temperatures at Gulf Wars during the day are rather high, some of you may wonder why I want to make and wear…

Racaire’s Embroidery & Needlework is back – a new year & fresh beginning…
Happy Valentine day to you! 😀 I thought this special day would be perfect for the fresh re-beginning of “Racaire’s Embroidery & Needlework”. Yes, like some of you might have already noticed, my blog – Racaire’s Embroidery & Needlework – was down for some time. After nearly 9 years of blogging with ca. 2.300 postings, it was time for a fresh beginning. A new beginning with a “virgin” blog and the possibility to protect my photos/ work/ research from further misuse. Well, already about 4-5 years ago I started to run into my work/photos at other blogs and websites without references and/or links back to me at a rather regular…
