Do you remember my last posting – 12th century embroidery – Saint Michael and the Dragon – which I posted some days ago? I am very glad to say that I have some new progress for you. I tremendously enjoy working at this embroidery in my rather rare “spare time” at the moment. Like always it is a great pleasure to see my embroidery grow. 😀 A personal side note for all of you who are waiting for news concerning my move to the states: I am still very busy washing and packing my fabric stash, sorting out stuff and packing more and more boxes for my move to the states. During the last weeks…

Update – 9th blog birthday gift – embroidered 14th century pouch…
Btw. do you remember the postings about the small embroidered 14th century pouch? …the small pouch I made for my 9th blog-birthday raffle which was inspired by an extant 14th century French pouch… Well, I am very glad to say that the pouch arrived save in the hands of its new owner – Jennifer in Dallas, Texas. …and she likes it! *happydance* I was so excited that I nearly forgot to tell you. 😀 All my projects are more then just projects therefore I tend to call them my “babies”. Every time I send one of my “babies” per mail on its way, the uncertainty if the package arrives or not is the most painful…

Happy Easter! …and some Spring Impressions from Vienna :D
Happy Easter! Frohe Ostern! …from Vienna. 😀 You really can’t avoid the Easter feeling here in Vienna. You can find chocolate Easter eggs and chocolate Easter bunnies at every grocery store here. …and there are Easter markets all over town too… Yes, you can say that Austrian like their Easter. *lol* …and though I am not sharing my chocolate Easter eggs or my chocolate Easter bunnies with you – in my opinion this is always the best part of Easter – I have some lovely Spring impressions from Vienna, Schönbrunn for you. This photos have definitely less calories than my Easter chocolate 😉

Mission “Medieval Berlin” – the forgotten 14th century Queen from France
As I promised, I already took a first look through my photos from Berlin. At the very first day I visited the “Tiergarten Berlin” (the zoo) and the nearby aquarium. Knowing that you would prefer to see some of my medieval photos first, I decided to skip this day for now and to start with day 2 and my very first museum visit. What shall I say – it was truly amazing! I already found some lovely medieval art at the very first museum I visited. I spend some hours looking through the medieval collection and took about 2.300 photos. Well, I admit that this count surprised me but I…

Mission “Medieval Berlin” accomplished :D
I am back again! …and I am very happy to say that I accomplished my “Mission Medieval Berlin”! *happydance* 😀 I had a rather long “wish-list” of museums which I wanted to visit. Therefore my time schedule for Berlin was very tight. 4 very long days filled with a lot of walking and yes, my feet still hurt! But there is just one word to describe my trip: Awesome! I was very busy in Berlin. I visited 7 museums and the zoo & aquarium. I also saw “Checkpoint Charlie”, the “Brandenburger Tor”,… just to name a few places. I even found time to meet two friends who live in Berlin. We…

Mission “Medieval Berlin”
I am so excited! I am going on a trip to Berlin! My motto for this trip will be: Mission “Medieval Berlin”! *gosch* 4 days filled with sightseeing, the zoo, “Checkpoint Charlie”,… – well, you know, all the “modern stuff” one can’t avoid when visiting Berlin. …and definitely as many museums and “ancient and medieval stuff” as possible! 😉 Yes, I will search Berlin for anything medieval I can find. My friends who live in Berlin already warned me that they don’t know any museums or medieval collections they could recommend. This information inspires me even more to search for even the smallest traces of extant medieval pieces in Berlin. Just 4 hours…

Posting about medieval embroidery for already 9 years ! Happy 9th birthday to me! :D
Happy birthday to me & my blog “Racaire’s Embroidery & Needlework”! 9 years filled with medieval embroidery! 😀 *gosch* …can you imagine it? I am already posting for 9 years about my embroidery and sewing projects. I think it is amazing – 9 long years filled with many medieval embroidery projects and medieval embroidery techniques like Klosterstich (cloister stitch), Refilsaum (Bayeux Stitch), German Brick Stitch, Surface Couching, Russian Pearl embroidery,… just to name a few. Btw. you can see a small part of my surface couching embroidery for my 12th century bliaut slit neckline on the right side. On the picture underneath you can see the final result of the first “Craft with…

Embroidered 14th century pouch for tomorrows 9th blog-birthday raffle finished!!! :D
Wooohoooo! Countdown! Just 1 day left! …and I just finished my embroidered 14th century pouch for the raffle! I just managed to finish the embroidered 14th century pouch! …and there is still one day left until the raffle! *happydance* This “petite” pouch is inspired by an actual 14th century pouch from France. I decided to rework two sections of an extant 14th century French pouch for it. You can see pictures of the other sections in my postings about my current commission which is based on the same extant 14th century French pouch: “14th century French pouch commission” The final result looks so nice that I wish I could keep…

Personal thoughts about hand-sewing and hand-embroidery…
After my recent posting with which I started my new “fast and easy pouch tutorial (handsewn)“- I started working at the first step for the second “Craft with Racaire” project. Thinking about the new project, about hand-sewing and hand-embroidery, I remembered the problems some people have when it comes to hand-sewing and/or hand-embroidery or when they are just thinking about trying it. I know that for many people just the thought of doing some hand-sewing or hand-embroidery is already scary and intimidating. In my opinionthis feeling is absolutely natural and I can tell from my experience that it is not limited to hand-sewing. It seems that especially newcomers seem to suffer from it.…
