I hope you enjoyed yesterdays short calligraphy sidestep as I am now moving on to the next step of the embroidery for the 14th century XL hood project for my friends Pelican elevation at the Meridian Grand Tournament: How I created the embroidered knight belt patches Though the embroidered knight belts might look rather simple, as you can see them at the picture on the left, they still demanded a lot of thought, time and stitches. But well, you know, I like challenges and this combined Order of the Chivalry and Pelican patches were definitely a very interesting personal challenge for me as I normally rarely do appliqué embroidery.

Medieval Pelican inspiration for embroidery .1
During the last days I was searching for a new medieval pelican inspiration for my current embroidery project. Well, what shall I say – finding a new inspiration is often difficult enough but if you are looking for something special, it can appear to be even more challenging. Fully aware of this fact, I gathered my favorite books about embroidery around me, sat down and went through my books in order to find a new medieval pelican inspiration for my current 14th century hood project for my friends pelican elevation.

But a good medieval embroidery needs a good basic framework… 🙂

14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery finished :)
And finally I found the time to finish the 14th century inspired Klosterstich rose embroidery which I started last year. Yes, I admit it, I neglected this small project a little and worked on several other more urgent projects in the meantime. But after my husbands heart attack last week, I really needed a nice embroidery project to ease my mind. I think everyone of us has something special that can provide a certain peace of mind. In some cases it is chocolate, some prefer to snack on nuts or have a nice glass of beer or wine, others start cleaning their home,… and well, I prefer to work at my embroidery projects. Well, not…

FAQ – 14th century embroidery & medieval inspiration
During the past years I was often asked for the medieval inspiration for the Klosterstich embroidery which you can see at the picture above. And I have not only embroidered this lovely theme – I also already used it for a hand painted mug and a hand painted box… And, well, I might even use it again in the future because I love it so much… 🙂
