Today a look at the growing background of my “12th century embroidery – Saint Michael and the Dragon“! I also started working at the shield of Saint Michael. …and I have pictures of yesterdays embroidery progress of the background as well as of the first shield outlines for you. I think it is very interesting how the added green background slightly alters the appearance of the dragon head – I really like the effect… but anyway, I love my little dragon. 😀 …and finally, here the new progress pictures for you – enjoy! 😀 …and again a close-up picture of my Split Stitch embroidery for you:

“Back to the Future” – Antonow flight over Hungary to Esztergom :D
Last saturday I was invited to join an Antonow flight over Hungary. I have to say – it was awesome!!! 😀 During the last years I attended at some air shows here in Austria – Air Power 2003, 2005 & 2009 – and enjoyed them a lot. But I always had the feeling that looking at old planes is one thing and traveling with one would be a completely different story…. I always thought it would be a great fun to travel with an old air plane and last weekend I finally got the chance and decided to dare it. Wow, it was a very interesting experience. 😀 Like always I took many pictures. I have…

Interesting Links – 12th century art on display in museums – a beautiful fresco in the USA…
Recently I run into some very nice examples of 12th century art on display in online museum collection. And not only 12th century art, I also found other nice pieces of medieval art from other centuries… 😀 Normally I just look through the photos and information and save what I find interesting to my hard disk for later inspiration and research. But I got to know that some of my gentle readers are not only interested into medieval embroidery but also into history and medieval art. Therefore I started collecting new interesting links as soon as I run into them to be able to share them with you.

12th century embroidery – Saint Michael and the Dragon – sneak peek.2
Though this medieval embroidery technique is a rather slow one, I am very happy to say that I again made good progress concerning my new “12th century embroidery – Saint Michael and the Dragon“ project. It took some hours but the wing of the dragon is completely finished now. I am looking forward to continue with the embroidery for the head and the neck of the dragon.

12th century embroidery – Saint Michael and the Dragon – sneak peek.1 & news concerning my move to the states…
Do you remember my last posting – 12th century embroidery – Saint Michael and the Dragon – which I posted some days ago? I am very glad to say that I have some new progress for you. I tremendously enjoy working at this embroidery in my rather rare “spare time” at the moment. Like always it is a great pleasure to see my embroidery grow. 😀 A personal side note for all of you who are waiting for news concerning my move to the states: I am still very busy washing and packing my fabric stash, sorting out stuff and packing more and more boxes for my move to the states. During the last weeks…

…bees wax for sewing – my self-made bees wax beauties for sewing… :D
…and finally another U.F.O.* finished! *happydance* (*= UnFinished Object) Two years ago I got some raw bees wax from a friend of mine in the states. He was so nice to share some of his raw bees wax with me because I was starting to run out of bees wax for sewing. Already one year ago I managed to clear the bees wax. Due to all my other projects I didn’t get to work any further with it till now. Currently my “old” and rather small piece of bees wax for sewing “died” – it became unusable. That was like a “wake up call”. Especially when I was holding the cleared wax in my hands while I was packing…

12th century embroidery – Saint Michael and the Dragon
At the moment I am working at the next posting for the current Craft with Racaire project – the “fast & easy pouch tutorial“. I will post it soon but it’s not finished yet… 😀 Therefore I decided to tell you more about my newest project and to show you some sneak peeks of it – of my new: 12th century embroidery project “Saint Michael and the Dragon” During my Mission “Medieval Berlin” I saw a beautiful embroidered wallhanging from the 12th century on display in one of the museums. This period wallhanging inspired me to try a “new” medieval embroidery technique. But first things first – here are the first photos of my new medieval embroidery project – enjoy! 😀 Above you…

My SCA scrolls and calligraphy for “Not So Grand 8” :D
*Woooohoooo* It is monday! That means that the weekend and also the SCA event “Not So Grand 8” are over and I can show you my scrolls and my calligraphy for the event… 😀 I didn’t get to practice my “Bastarda” – my preferred calligraphy hand – very often during the last months therefore I very appreciated this small “scroll commission” of my lord. This is always a great opportunity for me to get creative and to play around. I had a lot of fun working at this scrolls. 😀 I made two scrolls on “Pergamenata” for the winner of the fighting and the winner of the A&S and 3 “Thank you scrolls” for…
