Well, well, well,… As my husbands status reports on facebook remind me – christmas is just 25 shopping days away. *lol* But I have absolutely no reason to panic yet as my plans for christmas presents are already set. 😀
Like every year I will bake a huge amount of cookies for friends & family and make a new tunic for my sweetheart. And not only that – I found some glass ornaments at a local crafting store and might try to paint them. Yeah, just a little side project in case that the mood strikes me and I get bored… 😉
Yes, I admit it, I prefer to give away handmade gifts whenever it is possible. It seems like we are living in such a fast moving time that I consider handmade gifts one of the most precious presents one can give because it takes some of your personal time to make them. And not many things are more valuable nowadays than your own time…
I already have enough egg whites for “Stracciatella-Baisers“, which seem to be a favorite of some of my friends and in-laws. Though I might go with a lemon zest version instead of the chocolate version this year. And maybe some good old-fashioned Austrian “Vanille-Kipferln” and some other cookies – well, we will see…
And my husband is already excited about his christmas present – another late 12th century/ early 13th century tunic for his wardrobe. We found some beautiful raw silk at Gulf Wars (an SCA event in March) and though I was quite tempted to claim the fabric for myself, he really deserves a fine silk tunic for being such a good husband…
Most of the sewing is already done but like always I am not really looking forward to the neckline construction as he wants the same side slit neckline as I did for his grey light wool tunic last year. Well, I am not really frightened of the side slit neckline but it is always wise to be cautious while working on a special neckline like this one… And well, if I don’t find some nice trim in my stash, I might also have to do some tablet weaving soon…
However, the project will be finished soon and I might finally find the time and peace to sit down and draw the pattern on a piece of paper to be able to share it with you. Well, not today but hopefully soon if my squirrel mode doesn’t strike again…
And yeah, I saw some glass ornaments at one of the local crafting stores and just couldn’t resist but taking them home. Though I have never painted glass ornaments, I might give it a try when the mood and/or inspiration strikes me…
Well, I love this time… Though my christmas presents tend to be quite predictable, I still love the look on the face of the recipients when they carefully try my cookies or get a present which surprises them… 🙂
Happy crafting y’all! 😀
